Job Opportunity - Technical AssistantMonday 21st September 2009

We are looking for someone to assist Dr Chris Wederell, the Technical Director, and his team. The successful candidate will be trained and developed as a water treatment expert through external courses, mentoring by B & V's own very experienced staff and through practical experience.

The Post

The successful candidate will gain an extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of:

  • Water chemistry
  • Boilers, including high pressure boiler systems
  • Cooling towers and evaporative condensers
  • Closed water systems
  • Corrosion
  • Corrosion and scale inhibition
  • Microbiology and biocides
  • Water pre-treatment processes
  • Effluent treatment methods and chemistries
  • Water analysis

Roles

The successful candidate will need to assist in the day to day practical demands of a laboratory as well as information management. Key roles will be:

  • Product development
  • Technical support to the field force and own label customers, as experience is gained
  • General laboratory work
  • Maintenance of health and safety information and the preparation of safety data sheets/labels
  • Legislation compliance
  • Training - as experience is gained there will be a responsibility to train
  • Raw material sourcing

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Specialisation in relevant subjects such as corrosion, water chemistry etc would be an advantage.

A higher degree in a relevant subject would also be advantageous, but not essential.

Good computing skills are essential. This must include a good knowledge of Excel.

The successful candidate must have a driving licence.

Experience

Since it is our intention to develop the successful candidate, experience of the water treatment industry is not essential, but we welcome relevant practical experience.

The successful candidate must be committed to a career in water treatment and to the company.

The position available is not an academic one, so it is not for anyone looking for a pure research position. R&D is basic and practical.

Our company is growing steadily despite the current economic environment. Opportunities within senior management will arise. These opportunities will be open to the successful candidate if they grow and mature as we would hope.

There will be overseas visits.

Essentials

The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate to a location close to the Daventry head office.
