Press Release - Legionella Risk in Windscreen WaterMonday 14th June 2010
News has broken today suggesting that not using screen wash, and just using water to clean the windscreen of your car, could mean you are exposing yourself to Legionnaires Disease.
Legionnella bacteria grows best between 20oC and 45oC. The water used for cleaning windscreens can get warm and therefore be at the optimum temperature for Legionella bacteria growth.
The Health Protection Agency carried out a study that found that professional drivers are 5 times more likely to be infected with the disease. However, according to the findings, the simple act of adding screen wash to the water eliminates the risk of Legionnaires Disease.
It is an obvious concern for B & V Water Treatment that the risk of Legionnaires Disease is controlled and we suggest that the advice of the HPA is followed.
If you have any concerns regarding this information please call B & V on 0844 372 7344 and we will advise you further.
