Top award for water treatment company in UK’s fastest recovering townTuesday 21st December 2010

One of the UK's largest legionella control and water treatment companies, which began life in a pig shed over 30 years ago, has been named Business of the Year in a prestigious awards ceremony.

B & V Water Treatment won the title at the annual Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards which recognise top performance among hundreds of companies across the East Midlands county.

The multi-million pound turnover company is no stranger to the awards, sponsored by the Royal Mail and HSBC, among others, and organised in association with Northants Chamber. Last year it was named International Trader of the Year.

The award is yet another sign of the economic recovery being experienced in a fast growing Midlands town. Government statistics showing the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance indicate that Daventry has been recovering from the recession faster than the UK as a whole – with 2.1% on JSA compared with the national average of 3.5%.

B & V Water's remarkable success stems from its continued investments during the recession including a 33% increase in staff employed in the last year alone which has helped to sustain a consistent double digit growth in sales.

Panel judge John Harley from ACS Office Solutions, which won the title last year, was impressed by his visit to B & V Water Treatment.

"This is a company with future vision, born out of a desire to succeed in the global market place. It has a highly skilled workforce with leading scientists researching and developing their own products, delivering many benefits to people and companies throughout the world," he explained.

"The management and staff at B & V are all passionate about the company they are working for and share in the immense benefits of 'BVision,' the cornerstone of the company ethos. The results of the culture that has been created set this organisation apart from many others."

B & V Water Treatment also scored highly for its strong focus on environmental innovation, with one particularly successful scheme seeing the company recycle a quarter of a million empty chemical drums which, if stacked on top of each other, would have been higher than Mount Everest.

B & V Water Treatment MD Simon Ward explained: "Innovation has been our focus throughout 2010. We are fairly unique within the industry for our consistent research and development to ensure we develop new products and services with a focus on technology and environmental impacts. Our investment in technical expertise and support for our UK and International customers has paid dividends."

Its customer service policy also helped win the judges over – with its latest quarterly customer satisfaction survey showing 100% 'excellent' or 'above average' responses for its training courses and 96% 'good' or 'excellent' for its technical back up.

Customers range across the NHS, hotel, leisure, FM, petrochemical, food and drink industries as well as commercial and industrial sectors with a number of blue chip international customers.
