Cooling Water Treatment Chemicals

B & V have developed an extensive range of cooling water treatment chemicals to prevent the four major problems associated with a wide variety of cooling systems, such as hard water scale, metal corrosion, fouling by suspended solids and microbiological fouling (including legionnaires disease).

The chemicals are suitable for all types of cooling systems, such as large and small evaporative cooling towers, evaporative condensers, fluid coolers, refrigeration plant cooling and air compressors.

All our chemicals are provided with on-site technical service to accompany it, so the customer can always receive the best overall service to improve the operational efficiency of commercial and industrial cooling systems in ways as follows:

  • Treat the water before it goes to the cooling system
  • Maximise efficiency of the cooling water
  • Protect the system from hard water scale and corrosion
  • Protect the system from microbiological fouling
  • Prevent legionnaires disease
  • Avoid problems and shut downs
  • Extend equipment life
  • Monitor and control treatment levels.
Please find below a selection of the core products in our range of cooling water treatment chemicals.

A product specifically formulated for controlling white rust (corrosion) in cooling towers manufactured from galvanised steel.

BV52

A high molybdate based corrosion inhibitor designed for an ion exchange softened waters. Increased corrosion protection is achieved by blending a small amount of hard water into the system in order to obtain a hardness of around 25ppm. Suitable for waters with hardness up to 100 ppm.

BV540

A phosphate based product specifically designed for the prevention of ‘white rust’ or zinc corrosion in galvanised cooling towers. Can be used to passivate new towers. The product was developed specifically for use in high alkalinity soft waters. Suitable for waters with hardness between 20 – 80ppm.

BV197

A zinc based corrosion inhibitor for use for use in naturally soft waters.

BV38

A liquid, acidic on line descaler containing zinc / phosphonate corrosion inhibitors for cooling towers. This product can also be used to reduce the alkalinity of high alkalinity waters so that higher operating concentration factors are possible.

BV472

A zinc / phosphonate and polymer based scale and corrosion inhibitor for use in cooling systems, pasteurisers and sterilizers. Also contains a precursor for bromine.

iChem Range

We have a full range of concentrated, economical in use, corrosion and scale inhibitors for use in large systems. Please contact us for further details.

BV14

Biofilm dispersant for use in cooling towers, spray humidifiers and evaporative condensers.

Chlorine Based Oxidising Biocides

BV102

A liquid sodium hypochlorite solution for the disinfection of cooling towers, water storage tanks and water distribution systems.

BV54

A chlorine based biocide for the treatment of cooling towers. Also contains a Biodispersant. Use with BV55 to generate hypobromous acid in the ratio of 1:1.

Bromine Based Oxidising Biocides

BV55

A solution of sodium bromide for the use in the generation of sodium bromide. Use with BV54 to generate hypobromous acid in the ratio 1:1.

BV138

A solution of sodium bromide for the use in the generation of sodium bromide. Use with BV54 to generate hypobromous acid in the ratio 1:2.

BV114

A bromine / chlorine release tablet for controlling bacteria in cooling systems. A brominator should be used to give adequate control of dosing.

BV476

A bromine / chlorine release tablet for controlling bacteria in cooling systems. A brominator should be used to give adequate control of dosing.

Non Oxidising Biocides

BV127

Concentrated Isothiazolinone based biocide developed for use in cooling water systems and other applications.

BV128

Isothiazolinone based biocide developed for use in cooling water systems and other applications.

BV529

2.2-DiBrimo 3-NitriloProprionamide (DBNPA) based biocide for use in cooling water systems and other applications. Can also be used in pulp and paper processes.

BV111

Quaternary ammonium biocide,  developed for use in re-circulating cooling water systems. Acts as a combined Biodispersant and biocide

BV107

Broad-spectrum non-oxidising, THPS based biocide,  for use in re-circulating cooling towers and other process applications.

BV93

Glutaraldehyde based,  broad-spectrum, non-oxidising biocide for use in re-circulating cooling towers, closed loop systems and air washers with mist eliminators.

BV105

2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bronopol) based biocide. Used for controlling bacterial growth in industrial process systems, closed circuit systems, cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

Cooling Water Antifoam

BV2

Low toxicity organic antifoam for use in open evaporative cooling systems

PackCleanse Range

The Pack-Cleanse cleaning system effectively cleans light to moderately fouled cooling tower packs, by combining the disinfecting power of chlorine dioxide with the cleaning power of a weakly acidic surfactant mixture. The system produces a high-cling foam which is applied to surfaces to be cleaned under low pressure.

BV740

Pack-Cleanse Foamgel is an acid based foaming agent tolerant to chlorine dioxide.

BV741

Pack-Cleanse Foamgel safe is a low acid version for use where corrosion may be an issue.

This cleaning procedure based on the Pack-Cleanse Foamgels is intended for the routine cleaning of cooling towers and not the descaling of badly fouled towers. Select the Pack-Cleanse Foamgel for slightly scaled systems, and the Pack-Cleanse Foamgel safe for systems with no apparent scale, or where there are components vulnerable to acidic attack.

BV743

This product is a stabilised chlorine dioxide solution. It is packed in 250 ml containers, sufficient to generate 50 ppm of chlorine dioxide in 10 litres of Pack-Cleanse foamgel or foamgel safe.

BV744

The Pack-Cleanse defoamer has been especially selected to counter the foaming properties of the Foamgels without leaving residues.

BV745

This neutraliser solution neutralises both excess acidity and chlorine dioxide, allowing safe disposal of the spent cleaning solution form the tower.

Dosing of Cooling Water Chemicals

Cooling chemicals are ideally dosed automatically via a precise chemical pump that is controlled by equipment that will give the correct amount of chemical for the application. There are several methods of achieving this and two such popular methods are to link the pump to a water meter or to the operation the feed pump so that the dosing is proportional to the evaporation load. The most appropriate and precise method will depend upon the site conditions and your B & V representative can give you further advise on this.
