Water System Refurbishment

In order that our customers comply with Health and Safety and Water Regulation requirements our water system refurbishment service is available for a variety of equipment

Cold Water Storage Tanks

The maintenance of hygienic conditions within a domestic hot and cold water heating system is an essential requirement, not only for health reasons but for the elimination of the conditions that allow the growth of legionella bacteria. The build up of hard water scale, corrosion products, birds, rodents and insects in water storage tanks is often a neglected area of maintenance, resulting in a prime growth source for bacteria.

In order to eliminate the above problems, tanks should not only be cleaned and chlorinated on a regular basis but should conform to the WRAS approved specification. Since it is not always practibable to remove or replace ageing, leaking and corroding tanks, especially in areas of restricted access, some form of alternative in-situ repair is the often the only solution.

Any new tank or refurbishment should conform to the Water Regulations and have the following features:

  • Servicing valves on the inlet and outlet pipes
  • Lined or coated with a suitable impervious material
  • A warning / overflow pipe with insect screen
  • Screened air inlet
  • A close fitting lid
  • A sleeve for a vent pipe
  • Insulation against frost and heat gain

Where replacement of the tank is the only option then modular fibreglass tanks can be considered where access is limited.

One piece tanks are available in a variety of sizes where access is not a problem.

The method chosen for refurbishing a corroded tank will depend on various factors such as the shape, the internal construction, severity of corrosion etc.

The methods used all have their own merits and the method chosen will depend upon the circumstances and the longevity required and are as follows:

  • If the tank is not severely corroded then painting of the internal with epoxy paint.
  • Lining with butyl rubber
  • Lining with PVC.
  • Lining with fibreglass

Cooling Towers

The maintenance of cooling towers is an essential requirements of the HSE, ACOP L8. Many older cooling towers do not conform to this guide and require modification to enable maintenance operations to be carried out.

The services that we offer are as follows:

  • Relacement of badly scaled or damaged cooling pack
  • Uprading of drift eliminators to higher efficiency
  • Installation of access hatches to make the removal of pack and drift eliminators easier when cleaning and chlorinating
  • Refurbishment of air inlet louvres
  • Refurbishment of tanks and sumps
  • Installation of Dosing Equipment
  • Installation and servicing of water softeners

A full site survey by our engineer will establish the most suitable method of water system refurbishment. After any installation the water tank or cooling tower will be disinfected to conform to the HSE requirement. If  you would like to make a no obligation appointment  with one of our qualified water treatment engineers to discuss your application, please email sales@bvwater.co.uk or telephone +44 (0)1327 871967
