At B & V Chemicals, we understand the challenges industries face when using closed water systems. Problems such as corrosion, suspended solids, scale deposits, and microbiological contamination can impact water quality, equipment performance and compliance. We’ve developed a range of chemical treatments to resolve these issues effectively.
We offer several chemical treatments for closed water systems, including:
Due to the fixed volume and low make-up of closed systems, you can use treatments with a higher concentration.
Using a higher concentrated inhibitor means more substantial and longer corrosion resistance.
Closed systems often have low dissolved oxygen levels, which aids with the control and prevention of corrosion.
You can take advantage of higher biocide levels and longer contact times, which help control and maintain minimal microbiological levels.
Unless there is a substantial make-up, scaling is generally not a problem with closed systems.
These include multi-metal inhibitors, which are suitable for systems containing aluminium.

Microorganisms in closed systems can lead to the rapid buildup of bacteria and biofilm in the pipework, causing low efficiency, flow restrictions and corrosion deposits.
Managing biocides in closed systems with the right water treatment is more cost-effective and reliable. View our range of biocide products below and learn more about them here.

When temperatures get as low as 0°C or below, antifreeze products prevent recirculating water in chilled systems from freezing.
In closed systems with 25% glycol or above, the biostatic effect of the glycol prevents bacterial growth. If the concentration falls below 25%, glycol feed bacteria, producing acidic by-products that lower the pH of your water system and accelerate corrosion so addition of a biocide should be considered.

With systems more susceptible to blockages, pre-commission cleaning of hot water heating systems and chilled systems is essential.
System contaminants such as mill-scale, jointing compounds and fabricating debris must be removed by chemical cleaning and high velocity flushing, allowing the ongoing water treatment regime to effectively prevent corrosion and microbiological fouling. Older systems that have accumulated deposits due to a lack of the correct water treatment can be cleaned by a similar method.
Our range of specialist, effective pre-commission cleaning, biocidal flushing and system flushing chemical formulations is outlined below:
