We often take the quality of our drinking water for granted, assuming that it will always be safe and clean. However, the safety and purity of potable and domestic water are contingent upon the proper operation and maintenance of water systems. These systems must be meticulously managed to prevent issues such as scale buildup, corrosion, and microbial contamination, all of which can compromise water quality and pose serious health risks.
To ensure that harmful bacteria like Legionella and Pseudomonas do not thrive in water systems, strict controls and preventative measures are essential. These bacteria can cause severe illnesses if allowed to proliferate, making it crucial to implement effective strategies for water system management.
Our product range includes advanced biocidal solutions designed for the continuous dosing of water systems, ensuring that water remains safe and clean over time. We also offer specialized products for tank cleaning and the disinfection of down water services, providing comprehensive protection against contamination. By utilizing these products, you can maintain the integrity of your water systems and ensure that the water you rely on remains of the highest quality.
Continuous dosing solutions and down water service disinfections
Our product range features specialized biocidal solutions designed to enhance the safety of water systems by effectively controlling microbial activity. One of our flagship products, ULtralox 40, is a unique stable active halogen solution developed exclusively by B & V. It can be continuously dosed to maintain microbial control in potable water and down water services. Additionally, our silver-stabilized hydrogen peroxide product, SuPerSil, is perfectly suited for disinfection and continuous dosing applications. Both ULtralox 40 and SuPerSil are fully compliant with all necessary regulatory approvals under the Biocidal Products Directive and Approved under Regulation 31 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016, ensuring their safety and efficacy.
Product code | Application | Composition | Benefit |
---|---|---|---|
BV102 | Used to disinfect tanks, down water service pipework and potable water systems. | Sodium hypochlorite | Extremely effective oxidising biocide used for tank, down water services and potable water system disinfection. Neutralise with sodium thiosulphate prior to discharge. |
BV142 | Scale and corrosion inhibitor suitable for domestic and commercial water systems including potable water. | Phosphate and silicate based formulation | Controls corrosion and scale. Prevents 'red water'. Can be used to protect closed water systems where low toxicity is essential (i.e. food factories). |
BV236 | Neutralisation of chlorine | Sodium thiosulphate granules | Neutralises residual reserves of chlorine, enabling discharge to foul drain. |
BV659 | Used to disinfect tanks, down water service pipework and potable water systems. | Silver stabilised hydrogen peroxide | Broad spectrum biocide. Effectively removes biofilm. Can be dosed into down water services systems at recommended dose rate where it will break down into water and oxygen. DWI regulation 31 approved for potable system disinfection although this product must be flushed out of all potable systems following disinfection and prior to system use. |
BV894 | Gentle descaler suitable for use in potable water applications | Citric acid | Non toxic acidic formulation suitable for descaling kettles, drinking water hot water boilers and domestic water pipework |
BV1103 | Microbial control and biofilm removal in domestic/industrial water and ancillaries. | Stable active halogen | DWI approved formulation (up to 1ppm active) for continuous dosing of potable water and down water services. Straightforward proportional dosing system available. Safe, effective and easy to use solution. |
Scale and corrosion inhibitors
One key aspect of maintaining water system safety is the use of scale and corrosion inhibitors. These products help protect domestic water systems from the damaging effects of scale buildup and corrosion, which can deteriorate the infrastructure and create an environment conducive to bacterial growth.

Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine dioxide is a highly effective broad-spectrum oxidizing biocide that performs well even at low concentrations. It is widely used in applications such as disinfection, sanitation, and water treatment due to its superior oxidizing power—over 2.5 times greater than that of chlorine—and its ability to achieve results with a shorter contact time. Unlike sodium hypochlorite, which rapidly loses effectiveness as pH levels increase and becomes unsuitable for use at pH levels above 8, chlorine dioxide remains effective in alkaline conditions (pH <10).
One of the most significant advantages of chlorine dioxide is its ability to destroy biofilm, a feature that sets it apart from most other biocides. Furthermore, chlorine dioxide typically does not react with other water treatment chemicals or with nitrogen compounds, including ammonia, or naturally occurring organic materials such as organic acids, making it a versatile and reliable choice for maintaining water quality.

---|---|---|---|
BV19 | Dosed 1:1 with BV123 through a chlorine dioxide generator to produce chlorine dioxide | 9% Hydrochloric acid | Coloured pink with a food safe colourant for health and safety purposes and ease of identification. Supplied in a clear drum with a red cap. |
BV123 | Dosed 1:1 with BV19 through a chlorine dioxide generator to produce chlorine dioxide | An 8% solution of sodium chlorite | Supplied in a clear drum with a blue cap. |
BV1053 + BV1054 |
Used to disinfect tanks, down water service pipework and potable water systems | Stabilised chlorine dioxide solution. Activated on site using activator supplied | Chlorine dioxide is an effective disinfectant and biofilm remover. Generates a 1% solution of chlorine dioxide when activated. A wide range of applications. |
BV1304 | Ideal for use when a source of chlorine dioxide is required for small scale disinfection applications | Chlorine dioxide tablets | Easy to use source of chlorine dioxide. When added to water the tablet dissolves initiating a reaction that yields chlorine dioxide. One tablet in I. litre of water gives 2000 ppm chlorine dioxide. |
BV19 and BV123 are standard solutions used in the industry for the generation of chlorine dioxide through a chlorine dioxide generator. Our range also comprises a number of other strengths of both products for use in this application. Please contact our technical department for further information.
For customers planning to install chlorine dioxide systems for medium to large water usage sites, there is now an alternative solution available. Genox offers a proven alternative for both hot and cold water systems. It utilizes direct current electrolysis of brine (sodium chloride) to generate a pure oxidant (NEUTHOX ®) on demand.
