Multitreat SHD range

Proven to effectively eliminate Legionella spp and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Multitreat SHD offers comprehensive showerhead cleaning. In just a few minutes, it addresses the removal of scale buildup while ensuring peace of mind.

B & V Chemicals has conducted independent efficacy tests confirming Multitreat SHD's ability to prevent Legionella growth. This is further validated by customer feedback and our own laboratory tests. With Legionella being a serious concern in showerheads, Multitreat SHD provides assurance to our customers.

Independent testing:

Multitreat SHD underwent independent testing according to industry standards:

  1. PR EN (1995_): Tested for bactericidal activity against Legionella pneumophila. Multitreat SHD was evaluated neat and at a 1:3 dilution in the presence of high soil, with a contact time of 5 minutes. Both the neat and diluted solutions passed the test within the specified contact time.
  2. EN1276: Evaluated for bactericidal activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa using a quantitative suspension test. Multitreat SHD achieved a 5 log reduction within 5 minutes when used neat and at a 1:3 dilution.

These tests demonstrate the efficacy of Multitreat SHD in effectively combating Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, meeting rigorous industry standards for disinfection.

Showers deliver water at approximately 45°C, creating an ideal environment for bacterial growth. Due to sporadic use, showers may experience extended periods of stagnation, allowing bacteria to proliferate. Additionally, showerheads serve as filters, trapping debris and scale, which serve as nutrients and create a conducive habitat for bacterial replication. Regular cleaning of showers is therefore essential to mitigate bacterial proliferation and maintain hygiene.

For areas with hard water where scale buildup is visible on showerheads, it is recommended to use Multitreat SHD neat. In softer water areas or where no scale is present, a maximum dilution of 1:3 can be used. Independent testing has confirmed the effectiveness of a 1:3 dilution against Legionella within a short contact time of 5 minutes. Additionally, Multitreat SHD has been independently tested and proven effective against Pseudomonas Aeruginosa at 20°C in dirty conditions, whether used neat or at a 1:3 dilution. Its efficacy against these bacteria, commonly found in hospital environments, has led to high demand for Multitreat SHD in this sector.

Previous methods for descaling and sanitizing showerheads typically involved immersing them in acid for an extended period, followed by disinfection with a chlorine solution. However, using Multitreat SHD yields the same results with greater convenience and speed. Using Multitreat SHD also eliminates the potential health and safety risks associated with mixing acid and chlorine.

Multitreat SHD range

BV661 Multitreat SHD: all in one shower head descaler and sanitiser

BV847 Multitreat SHD (Indicator): all in one shower head descaler and sanitiser with colour change indicator showing when the acid level is depleted below the level when effective disinfection can occur

BV1148 Multitreat SHD gel: slightly thickened version of BV661 designed for spraying onto fixed showerheads and taps

The graph below illustrates the colour change reaction of Multitreat SHD (Indicator). Initially, the product exhibits a reddish-orange colour, which gradually shifts as the acid in the solution is neutralized by the dissolution or removal of calcium carbonate scale. As the pH increases, the solution transitions to yellow, indicating that the acidity necessary for effective descaling has been depleted. It's noteworthy that the colour change during this process has not caused any discoloration of fixtures or fittings throughout the more than 10 years that this product has been available.

A thickened variant is also available ie Multitreat SHD gel. This formulation is suitable for descaling fixed shower heads that cannot be removed, as well as taps. The increased viscosity of the product allows it to be sprayed onto surfaces, ensuring prolonged contact for effective descaling and disinfection. Moreover, the gel can be easily rinsed away to prevent potential corrosion from prolonged contact with the surface.
